THE CHECKOUT GIRLS

As fate would have it, the Checkout Girls have finally arrived. Brothers Tim (vocals, guitar) and Matt Bader (bass, vocals), and friends Dave Patrikios (guitar, vocals) and Dave Foy (drums), have been orbiting each other for years. But it wasn’t until very recently that the boys aligned on their current crash course for customer satisfaction.

Service With A Smile

Combining East Coast precision with West Coast song-craft, the Checkout Girls’ distinctive sound conjures notes of the Replacements, Tom Petty, Wilco, and classic U2. Soaring melodies and expressive lyrics wrap themselves around explosive rhythms. They bully their way into your imagination and demand attention.

Experience A Must

Separately and together in many iterations, the boys have supported No Doubt, Matchbox Twenty, the Strokes, Blondie, and Joe Strummer; recorded with Jeff Cain, Steve Albini, John Siket, and Martin Bisi; and logged countless road hours in as many states and countries.

The Express Line

In June of 2009, the then-nameless group got together for their first rehearsal. (On the docket for the afternoon: muscling through the Replacements’ “Left of the Dial” and Hüsker Dü’s “Don’t Wanna Know If You Are Lonely”.) Six short months and 10 original songs later, the Checkout Girls have performed multiple times around the Los Angeles area, including their debut show at renowned Hollywood venue, Hotel Café.

The release of the powerful six-song Checkout Girls EP is more than just another notch in the belt of this experienced band. It’s a line in the sand between music that tells you how to feel, and music that lets you decide. The Checkout Girls EP is available now.

Track Name: Summer Girls
The locals preach it every year
Never fall for a summer girl
They come and go like the tide rolls in
Then before you know it they’re out again

I caught a look just walking by
I swear to God that I didn’t try
But my breath was held and my pulse ran high
I knew at that moment she was mine

OK, alright
I hate goodbyes
Let’s stay together all night long
We’ll steal the sun before morning comes

Don’t wait, don’t fight
You know that we’re right
The city seems so far away
Just stay with me for one last day

Sunny days and drunken nights
We always made it to our part-time jobs
We laughed so hard you almost cried
The day that I fell on our Sunday ride

OK, alright
I hate goodbyes
Let’s stay together all night long
We’ll steal the sun before morning comes

Don’t wait, don’t fight
You know that we’re right
The city seems so far away
Just stay with me for one last day

We'll go on, life goes on...
Track Name: One Of Those Times
It’s just one of those times
It’s just one of those times
When I didn’t stand up
I didn’t say no
I didn’t step back
And now I have my regrets

They dress me up in a white leisure suit
Photographer knows what to do
Accessorize, my hands are tied
And I feel so empty
I’ve lost my identity

It’s just one of those times
It’s just one of those times
When I didn’t stand up
I didn’t say no
I didn’t step back
And now I have my regrets

We got a new record to do
Producer over-produced
With auto-tune, mixed out the truth
Now there's no conviction
I can’t even listen…to it

It’s just one of those times
It’s just one of those times
When I didn’t stand up
I didn’t say no
I didn’t step back
And now I have my regrets

Yeah, it’s just one of those times
Just one of those days
It's one of those nights
I can't explain
Track Name: Back At Home
Maybe it's because I grew up way too fast
I always wanted to be accepted by the upper class
Still pretending to like the things I never would
I woulda done anything to blend in with the neighborhood

The last place I thought that I would be
With my head still hanging low is back at home
And the last thing I needed to hear
Were your words I told you so…I told you so

So I headed out of town to run down dreams
Diploma's packed but I wanted different things
Wasn't ready for a normal suburban life
It all seems funny now, how I wanted to impress the world

The last place I thought that I would be
With my head still hanging low is back at home
And the last thing I needed to hear
Were your words I told you so…I told you so

I took a chance
Made mistakes
Tried just like the others did

Can’t you see
This is me
And all I ever wanted was to be accepted
And all I ever wanted was to be successful

The last place I thought that I would be
With my head still hanging low is back at home
And the last thing I needed to hear
Were your words I told you so…I told you so

And the last thing I needed to hear
Were your words I told you so…I told you so
And the last place I thought that I would be
With my head still hanging low was back at home

I'm back at home
Track Name: Broken Hearts
There’s gotta be something better than starting fights
There’s gotta be something better than broken hearts
Round by round we go and nothing’s solved
Maybe we’ve run our course, baby, you’re my dark horse

There’s gotta be something I can say to make this short
There’s gotta be something I can do so you won’t hurt
I know we’ve always tried to make us work
Maybe we’ve run our course, baby, you’re my dark horse

And I feel so useless
Almost helpless
Because I’m not in control

We need to stop feuding
Like Shakespeare's nobles
And allow time to grow

There’s gotta be something better than starting fights
There’s gotta be something better than broken hearts
Track Name: Wanna Know Who Wins
Some trade away
A normal life
And memories
For some brief fame
On a sound stage

Some move away
From their friends
And family
A career change
Could prove one thing

That the world is entertained
Through all the think and thin
And they will never miss a show
Cause they wanna know who wins…they wanna know who wins

Some sing in key
Or they make a mockery
Out of themselves
Sometimes looks sell

Some judge the way
A person looks
Or on what they say
It’s so cutthroat
It’s a tough show

That the world is entertained
Through all the think and thin
And they will never miss a show
Cause they wanna know who wins…they wanna know who wins

I wanna see who wins
I wanna see who falls along the way
I wanna see tears roll down their faces
On every elimination

That the world is entertained
Through all the think and thin
And they will never miss a show
Cause they wanna know who wins…they wanna know who wins
Track Name: Sold It
I look about and it seems like there’s nothing left
Burned out my youth and I suffer from forgetfulness
Ambition's gone and I’ll catch the first pitch at 4:30

The traffic's locked, so I never want to drive in town
You’ll catch me walking with cigars and Miller cans
It’s getting dark and this pattern seems to keep reoccurring

It’s golden
Not stolen
I know it
I sold it

Complacent face, but regret tattooed my brain
Is this living or a life that’s settling?
My guard's still up but my balance is off on my back heel

Don’t get too close cause I’m known to chew on ears
I've got the answers and I’ll tell you to face your fears
Ambition's gone and I’ll catch the last race at 4:30

It’s golden
Not stolen
I know it
I sold it

And I feel so indifferent
In the right place
At the wrong time
I’m the right guy

Saturation of rock bands
Need a filter
To find one

Still I feel so indifferent
I'm wrong guy
At the right time

It’s golden
Not stolen
I know it
I sold it
